Corey Givens is a dedicated leader and a strong voice for Pinellas County's students and teachers. In addition to volunteering his time to dozens of community groups and causes, he has also served on the South St. Petersburg citizens Advisory Council, the Suncoast Sierra Club Executive Committee, the St. Petersburg City Beautiful Commission, and as President of the Lakewood Terrace Neighborhood Association.
“My friends, family, and members of my church have encouraged me to take my service to the next level,” Givens said in his campaign announcement video. “Our schools face many challenges during these uncertain times, but I know when we work together we’ll solve them together. That’s what I’ve been doing in my community and that’s what I’ll continue to do on the school board.”
Givens is active in numerous community groups and organizations including the Pinellas County Job Corps Center, the Concerned Organization for the Quality Education of Black Students (C.O.Q.E.B.S.), the League of Women Voters, Lakewood Elementary where he serves on the PTA and as a mentor, the St. Petersburg NAACP, Parent Support for Education Council, the National Education Association, the Lincoln Cemetery Society, and his church.
“My family taught me about service to community and giving back,” Givens said of his community involvement during his campaign announcement. “Those values are reinforced every day by my faith and my church.”
As an educator, businessman and community activist, Givens brings a fresh perspective and diverse skill set to the school board.
Givens is a fourth generation St. Petersburg native. He’s also a Lakewood High CAT and USFSP Alum. He plans to begin pursuing his Master's degree this Fall at Howard University. If elected, he would be the youngest school board member in Pinellas County's history.
